About This Piece
Part of the Japan Collection inspired by my travels in there in 2016. Set in the Tenryu-ji Zen temple, Kyoto, in a world heritage site, I remember just how breath taken I was when I first laid eyes on it. It was a literal dream. Imagine grey clouds separating to reveal a magical temple under the mist. When painting the original of this piece, I really wanted to make sure I captured the serenity I felt when I was there while being awe-inspiring at the same time.

The finer details
The lady in red crossing the bridge adds an element of hidden mystery. It’s not the immediate thing that catches the eye, but once you see them, it leaves you wondering.
The colour palette is so calming, yet the misty sky gives a feeling of instant nostalgia…
