The Breakfast Project

A two-part series of acrylic on 80cm x 30xm canvases where I painted breakfast items I have consumed in the past in a close-up study. I initially purchased the canvases with no idea what I would do. I just loved the dimensions and knew that a close-up would have an amazing effect on them.

“Smoothie Bowl” - 80cm x 30cm

Back in 2018, I started a vegan recipe/travel blog. This smoothie bowl was one of my first ever recipe blog posts. I would have never guessed that 3 years later in 2020 I would paint this. A breakfast I consumed on a very normal day, turning into a large painting.

Coffee and Oranges original painting

“Coffee and Oranges” - 80 x 30cm

This was a beautiful breakfast that me and my partner had put together when we stayed in Montenegro in 2018 during the European road trip leg of our travels. Crisp blue skies, sea breeze, fresh coffee, and fresh fruit. I really wanted to capture the feeling of warmth and sunlight in this piece. Though the scenery was blue, the colour palette of the whole table was super warm and earthy.

Painting something so seemingly mundane as breakfast, something we consume every single day, really puts into perspective the abundance of shapes, colours, and textures this wonderful world has to offer! All we need to do is to stop and look close enough.
